"ZEPA CAMPOS DE ALBA Y ZEC RIBERAS DEL TORMES Y AFLUENTES"

Declared "Special Protection Area for Birds" in 2003, this natural area is located northeast of the province of Salamanca (Spain).

 

It is a large agricultural area dedicated to intensive cultivation of cereals.

It is a privileged place for watching steppe birds such as Great Bustard (Otis tarda), Little Bustard (Tetrax tetrax), Black-bellied Sandgrouse (Pterocles orientalis), and Pin-tailed Sandgrouse (Pterocles alchata).

 

You can discover species in flight as Montagu's Harrier (Circus pygargus), Northern Harrier (Cyrcus cyaneus), Booted Eagle (Hieraaetus pennatus), Short-toed Snake Eagle (Circaetus gallicus), Red Kite (Milvus milvus) and Black Kite (Milvus migrans). 

 

At night you can see nocturnal birds such as the Barn Owl (Tyto alba).

 

"Azud de Roiolobos" has become an important place for the breeding of birds such as White-headed Duck (Oxyura leucocephala) and Eurasian Spoonbill (Platalea leucorodiaBlack-winged Stilt (Himantopus himantopus) Greylag Goose (Anser anser), Mallard (Anax platyrhynchos), Northern Shoveler (Anas clypeata), Northern Pintail (Anas acuta) and Eurasian Coot (Fulica atra).

"Embalse de Santa Teresa" is the suitable place for watching the Cranes (Grus grus) and is considered as one of the largest roosts of this specie in the Iberian Peninsula.

 

This is a very important habitat for populations of birds of the steppes as Montagu's Harrier, Lesser Kestrel, Pin-tailed Sandgrouse, Black-bellied Sandgrouse and Great Bustard.

 

Waterfowl such as Black-winged Stilt, la White-headed Duck y la Eurasian Spoonbill nest here.
