Declared Natural Park in the year 2002, this beautiful place is located west of the provinces of Salamanca and Zamora (Spain).

Douro river forms the border between Spain and Portugal and It creates the most profound and vast canyons of the Iberian Peninsula.

 

This Natural Area has numerous hiking trails of different lengths and difficulty

 

There are many lookouts that let you enjoy panoramic unforgetable.

 

You can also visit the many "Castros Vettones" scattered throughout the area and enjoy the small towns  and the typical products of the region.

 

 

The gap produced by the rivers of the area create the highest and spectacular waterfalls in the Iberian Peninsula (Pozo de los Humos, Pozo Airón, Cachón del Camaces, Cachón del Berrido).

In the granite crags, you can observe birds such as Black Stork (Ciconia nigra), Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos), Bonelli's Eagle (Hieraaetus fasciatus), Egyptian Vulture (Neophron percnopterus), Griffon Vulture (Gyps fulvus),  Eurasian Eagle-Owl (Bubo bubo), Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus), Blue Rock Thrush (Monticola solitarius), Red-billed Chough (Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax) and Red-rumped Swallow (Hirundo daurica).

 

In the plain, you can see numerous species such as Short-toed Snake Eagle (Circaetus gallicus), Red Kite (Milvus milvus), Black Kite (Milvus migrans), Hoopoe (Upupa epops), Eurasian Golden Oriole (Oriolus oriolus), Dartford Warbler (Sylvia undata), Sardinian Warbler, (Sylvia melanocephala) and Azure-winged Magpie (Cyanopica cyanus).
