BIOSPHERE RESERVE "SIERRAS DE BEJAR Y FRANCIA"

Located south of the province of Salamanca (Spain), This is an ideal area for hiking and bird watching.

 

Here you can visit the Natural Park "Batuecas - Sierra de Francia" and the Natural Areas "Sierra de Candelario" and "Sierra de Quilamas".

The large forest areas are home to numerous birds among which we highlight: Common Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis), European Roller (Coracias garrulus), Hoopoe (Upupa epops), Eurasian Golden Oriole (Oriolus oriolus), Dartford Warbler (Sylvia undata), Sardinian Warbler, (Sylvia melanocephala), Azure-winged Magpie (Cyanopica cyanus).

In this area you can see Black Stork (Ciconia nigra), Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos), Bonelli's Eagle (Hieraaetus fasciatus), Booted Eagle (Hieraaetus pennatus) Short-toed Snake Eagle (Circaetus gallicus), Red Kite (Milvus milvus), Black Kite (Milvus migrans), Egyptian Vulture (Neophron percnopterus), Cinereous Vulture (Aegypius monachus), Griffon Vulture (Gyps fulvus), Eurasian Eagle-Owl (Bubo bubo), Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus) and Black-winged Kite (Elanus caerulescens).

We must not forget the great richness of history, culture and ethnography of the area.

 

You can see medieval villages, prehistoric sites and countless traces of the ancient crafts of the mountain population.

You can visit castles, monuments and gardens while you taste rich products and local wines.
